Mount Vernon Rec Center

The community is invited to enter the renovated Mount Vernon Rec Center! The Rec Center opened its doors on Monday, June 9.

Certain areas of the Rec Center are still being completed, pardon our dust! The Rec Center will be operating under modified hours as the full Rec Center is made ready to open to the public. Please check back for updated hours and to see what areas of the building are open.

 *Rentals will continue as previously scheduled. Holiday hours are in effect for Friday, July 4.

We are just as excited as you to use the upgraded Mount Vernon Rec Center — so we didn't want to wait to open! The main lobby, the expanded, two-level Fitness Center and our two ice rinks are now accessible.

Other areas of the Rec Center will open in stages:

• Monday, June 16 — Camps begin; Join drop-in group fitness classes (yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Zumba, Les Mills Bodypump^TM) classes; Sign up for classes in Parktakes
• Monday, June 23 — Climbing wall opens; Drop-in childcare room opens
• Monday, July 7 — Normal Rec Center hours of operation
• July — Birthday parties begin
• Late summer — Pool/Natatorium, spa and sauna open

Workout in multiple ways in the expanded Fitness Center. Try out various cardio and strength equipment — from recumbent bikes and stair climbers to free weights.

Cool off by taking a spin around the Rec Center’s ice rinks. The Ice Arena features a skate rental area and skate sharpening services. Sign up for a skating class, hockey class or join in a public session (for a daily fee) to skate. Check the ice arena webpage for more details. 

Please note that locker room access may be limited but two family restrooms with showers are available for use. Lockers in the ice area can be used, please bring your own lock. Cubby space is available in the Fitness Center.

Want to check out the facility and its amenities? Stop by Mount Vernon Rec Center and ask the front desk staff to take a self-guided tour. Check online for additional staff guided tours being scheduled as staffing allows.   

Interested in learning more about the Fitness Center? Schedule an orientation to learn more about using the equipment, explore wellness amenities and hear about programs. Mount Vernon Rec Center Ice Arena boasts high quality amenities to help ice skaters reach their full potential. This area features two ice rinks — the Blue Rink and the Red Rink (identified by bleacher color) — that both meet National Hockey League (NHL) size specifications (200 feet long by 85 feet wide). It also includes a skate rental area with skate sharpening services, team locker rooms and party room with skate-friendly flooring for events. Please note that locker rooms have limited access and birthday parties are not taking place until July.    

Enjoy time on the ice by: 

• Signing up for skating classes and/or hockey classes 
• Joining a Public Skate Session (open skate times for all ages and abilities) 
• Attendance is included in Rec Center membership 
• Non-members pay a daily fee or can purchase a discounted pack of entries   
• Securing a spot in a Freestyle Sessions (open time for figure skaters) — sign up ahead of time to secure your spot! See the Freestyle Sessions calendar for times. 
• Signing up for Ice Dance to work on paired skating skills. View the Ice Dance calendar for times.  
• Grabbing a spot for Pickup Hockey (ages 16+) or Stick ‘n’ Puck (ages 5+) — sign up ahead of time to secure your spot! See the Hockey calendar for times.

Rink Rentals and Reserving Ice Time 

The Mount Vernon Rec Center Ice Team takes ice rink rental requests on a quarterly basis. Currently, requests are being accepted through Friday, June 20. When the submission form is live, submit one time or recurring rink rental requests online.

Mount Vernon Rec Center offers drop-in childcare for ages 6 months to 10 years. Our staff provides activities, games and crafts to get kids moving, playing and making new friends while you work out.  

The drop-in childcare room opens on Monday, June 23. Find current room hours listed under Mount Vernon Rec Center on the operational hours webpage.  

Cost to use drop-in childcare is $3 per child for Rec Center members (annual or monthly) and $10 per child for non-members. Please note that a parent or guardian must remain in the building while their child/children are in the drop-in childcare room and the maximum amount of time to use these services is two hours.

Mount Vernon Rec Center’s artificial rock climbing wall challenges everyone from beginners to advanced climbers. There’s a maximum occupancy of six climbers on the wall at one time. It features auto-belays as well as a bouldering area for an additional challenge.  

The climbing wall welcomes drop-in users (who have filled out a waiver) when the Park Authority’s trained attendants are available to supervise. The wall is scheduled to open for climbers starting on Monday, June 23. Find climbing hours listed under Mount Vernon Rec Center on the operational hours page. 

Celebrate birthdays with climbing fun, a party on ice or splashing excitement (coming soon). Party packages include 20 admissions and a two-hour party featuring one hour of an activity (climbing, skating and swimming when the pool opens) and one hour in a party room. Pricing starts at $350.

Celebrate with Us!

Please check your child’s pre-camp email the week before they start for more detailed information.  For general information visit the Park Authority’s Camp website. Be on the lookout for signage about drop-off and pickup for your camper when entering the facility.  

Currently the natatorium which includes the pool, spa, sauna, wet classroom and spectator area is closed while renovations are completed. These amenities are scheduled to open later this summer. 

Due to ongoing construction, the pool at Mount Vernon Rec Center will not be available for use during summer camps at this time. The Rec Center offers many other unique and exciting features sure to provide campers with a full, active and memorable experience. Camps at this location will be able to offer time to ice skate or indoor rock climb as the schedule allows. 

We are planning to celebrate after construction is complete and the facility is fully open! The grand opening celebration will showcase the very best of all aspects of this renovated community wellness hub. Please stay tuned to the Mount Vernon Rec Center website for more details.
